|plasma sprayed chrome oxide
Hi Gordon i have recently plasma sprayed chrome oxide for a thickness
of 440microns. When i got the sample tested i got a hardness of 1150 HV/1. I have used Amperit make chrome oxide powder. the porosity level was 1.5%. what is the acceptable hardness and porosity levels for plasma sprayed chrome oxide. Also will ther be any difference if i spray with metco powder.please letme know.

This is what I would call a fairly typical plasma sprayed chromium oxide coating. With careful selection of powder and time spent optimising parameters, denser (1% and less) and harder (1500 - 1800 HV/1 and 0.3 cross-section harness) coatings are possible.
