food safe....porosity. and sealant
Hi All.

New Bloke here.
Ihave a number of containers
(1.5mx1mx1m) that
I need to flame spray in aluminum. Problem is they are for transporting tuna from ship to factory so the porous and slightly rough finish is not really appropriate.
What would be the most basic food safe sealer to use and how ( if possible could I smooth the coating without compromising the protection.
Many thanks
Rob

In this case there is no simple and safe solution other than large plastic bags that have to be placed in your container.

Hi Hambob
I did time ago some coatings on Tanks for foodstuff, there are a lot of products from API elastomer sealants and protective coatings , for your application could be applied Plastigel Atoxic 3220 ,  that fulfils the specification for food applications 82/711/CEE, 85/572/CEE, 90/128/CEE, 2002/72/CEE, 2004/19 CE e 2007/19 CE, after application of 200 µm of TSA aluminum coating (anticorrosion coating for sea water), then a primer for Plastigel 3220 (could be Polieto SP Primer) , and then 300  µm of Plastigel, applied by airless paint system
Best regards
Luigi
