Titanium adhesion
Hi everyone, I´m spraying pure titanium for a porous coating, but I can´t get a good adhesion. I´m working with a APS system with a F4 gun. I tried to coat first with titanium around 100 micron grain size as bond coat. Is this the solution? thanks for helping me!

Can you give us more information on your process, coating, substrate and preparation etc..?

Are there restrictions/limitations for example could you use a NiAl bond coat?

Are you using some form of argon shield?

Atmospheric plasma spraying titanium usually leads to good bonding (almost self-bonding), but becomes extremely brittle due to uptake of oxygen, nitrogen (and hydrogen if present).

Hi Gordon,
thanks for your reply. On my work, I´m using a F4 gun with Argon and Hidrogen for the plasma and Argon as transportation gas. I must use only titanium for coating. The coating substrate are Ti alloy and CoCr alloy. My samples are always cleaned with methanol in ultrasonic bath. Then, they are grit blasted with Corindum (aluminum oxide) F40 first and F14 for the finish roughness. What is the recommended roughness for coatings with big grain size powder? The Ti powder have grain size about 250 and 350 microns. What is the main parameter when I have to coat with a big size titanium powder?
