Tantalum for electric wire arc
Hi all,

I'm wondering have any one here try Tantalum wire for electric arc?
Melting point for Ta is about 3000C, is this matarial suitable for electric arc?
I've checked Sulzer do not have this type of wire, can anyone suggest other supplier for Ta wire.

Thanks.

RE: Tantalum for electric wire arc
If they ever made that, i assume for a roll of wire it would cost to much. I think scrap is going for 300us dollars for a kg. Cheaper for a powder, used to repair glass linings with plasma.

RE: Tantalum for electric wire arc
I think you can spray Tantalum with arc spray, becouse the stream temperature ia about 4.200 °C, and if you use nitrogen gas instead of compressed air you can reach more than 5.600 °c, but the problem is the cost of the tantalum, I mean that is better to use a high spray technologies, like VPS.
Best regards
Luigi
