Shear Capability of Metco 443
Gordon,

Have you heard of the shear capability of a coating? any coating like Metco 443. As far as I know, most of the Lap shear Testing for thermal coating is not commenly applicable nowadays. Can you help to elaborate more on this topic? What's the shear capability means, what's it's impact and concern, and what's the importance o knowing the shear capability of a coating.

Thanks.

Regards,
Alex

RE: Shear Capability of Metco 443
Hi Alex

I can only think that the "shear capability" is the same as shear strength. Obviously, shear strength is a very important coating property, but testing and relating results to the real world in not simple.

If you access to the old Metco "Flame Spray Handbook" and "Research Laboratory Report #106 Evaluation Methods and Equipment for Flame-Sprayed Coatings" you will find some info and discussion on shear testing using methods not requiring adhesives.
