REMOVAL PF TSA COATING
Dear all,
recently i was execting a job for coating ID of 36" pipe line for a customer. We had left 4'' from both sides for carrying out welding and spraying field joints. how ever due to fit up problems pipe was required to cut in the Sprayed portion. We tried to remove coating with Blasting but witch was taking lot of time. After that we ground off to prepare the joint. Is there any chemical method where sprayed coating can be leached away
Vijay

RE: REMOVAL PF TSA COATING
Hi Vijay

Sodium hydroxide solution (~ 75g/l of water @ 40C) should remove /degrade aluminium coating at roughly 1mm/hr without significant damage to steel substrates. My concern would be, that if you want to remove only part of the coating, protecting the coating area to be left will be a big problem.
