RE: Metco601 coating peel off
I realise this is adressed to Gordon but I'll get things moving.....
The machining of this Vane Assembly is definitely agressive but the coating has delaminated only circum-mid section. Could you supply some close up photos of the worst areas? Could you also show pictures of the coating post spray and prior to machining?

What system and plasma gun was used.

Cheers

Hi joanwang

First, a tip (this is not just for joanwang as many others have done the same Smile ) - Be careful on addressing threads/posts. While being flattered Cool, I am sure I'm not the only person or best person to ask directly. We have many members with great experience and expertise. Don't put them off from responding, address your thread/posts to all.

In addition to GlenB's comments:

Any history on coating process? deviations from the normal practice like a break during spraying etc..

Results from coating evaluation and Q/A?

Is this a one off problem or does it effect many parts?

Initially, it does sound like a machining problem.

RE: Metco601 coating peel off
Hi joanwang,
We recently had problems with Metco 601 delamination (peeling off) on both compressor rotor and stator installed onto Honeywell APU.
There is a service bulletin (tech mod/upgrade) to address such issue.
Corrosion (oxy sulfidation/pollution) was found to be at the origin of both parts distress.
Service bulletin introduces Metco 610NS (Bronze Polyester) in place of 601NS.
Metco 610NS is much more resistant to environmental micro agression and also much easier to machine.

Hope it helps
Cheers
Laurent

Hi,Gordon
100% agree with "We have many members with great experience and expertise". Thanks to the great share of our specialists. That makes this forum a excellent platform for new members in the surface engineering line to get improvement.

This is a new repair. There is no long break during spraying except measuring and powder refill.

Results from coating evaluation and Q/A?
The coatng evaluation is fulfilled.

Is this a one off problem or does it effect many parts?

Not for all parts, only sometimes(15%) the coating peel off like picture show.

Thanks!
