Optimum wire speed (ft. / min) of Metco Aluminum SF wire 1/8 inch.

Wire speed is normally set for the highest wire speed at which the wire melts off to a point without sputtering. For many wires, the optimum speed results in a melting tip position about 12 - 25mm in front of the air cap. The actual length will vary depending on wire and the desired coating fineness.

If you look at your spraying tables in the gun manual for your equipment, you will find the typical consumption in weight per hour. If you weigh a known length of wire you can then easily calculate the wire speed needed.
