RE: Metco 450NS
Hi Laurent
Typically 100 - 150 μm (0.004 - 0.006") thick applied in one pass is recommended for best bond coat. Thicker coatings will not add to bond strength, though may be considered for dimensional restoration.
Check with your customer coating specification/procedures as these may be different to above.

RE: Metco 450NS
Dear Gordon,
With reference to your earlier post, did you mean thickness of 100 to 150 microns deposited in a single pass?
Assuming that you mentioned this for Plasma Spray, is this also recommended while spraying Ni-Al or Ni-Cr Buffer layers (for restoration) with HVOF?

Yes, just for the initial bond spray pass.

No, I would keep these much lower ~ <25 μm/pass

Hi Gordon,
Thanks very much for your prompt reply.
In case of dimensional restoration, what maxi thickness could we think of?
It seems that coating sometimes peels off, but it could be coming from parent metal thickness (after grinding) of the compressor ring.
We manage to reduce overall repair cost by expanding machining criteria.
Most probably should we go for chemical removal.
Thanks

RE: Metco 450NS
Hi Laurent
There appears to be no thickness limitation quoted for Metco 450. So this should be suitable from this aspect for dimensional restoration. Just bare in mind that the coating will only restore dimension, it will not restore the other properties of the original substrate material like strength/ductility etc.
