Hi all,

I have a couple of questions about HVOF JP5000.

What does the different length (4,6, 8'') of barrel do in terms of spray quality, particle velocity and temperature?

What are the general hardware life for CoNiCrAlY, and CRC spray?

Hi Hong

Was hoping someone with more specific experience with JP5000 would reply, but I will kick things off:

The longer barrel lengths may be capable to impart higher velocity and or increased heating (via extra containment). Coatings may benefit from increased density and strength.

Hardware life I suspect will decrease with barrel length - parameters become more critical to avoid erosion and fouling.

For me deposit efficiency greatly increases with barrel length, longer the better, but it becomes quite a trick balancing the powder feeders to avoid loading up the barrel, and all we are doing is running samples of many different custom powders. I have the best success with 6 inch barrels.

Longer barrels may provide better DE for some powders but not CRC. Our parameters for that powder allow for either barrel. Hardware life is mainly a parameter issue. If something is out of whack a barrell's life can literally be minutes.

Dear members, I want to ask a question about this Topic Speaking.

What is the differances about 12mm, 19 mm and 22 mm combustion chamber? We have 78mm, 135mm, 200 mm length of Nozzles. We use length of 135mm for Carbides, and 200 mm for ceramics. but 12mm 19mm and 22mm combustion chambers, including the nozzles available in three different combinations.

What should be done according to the selection of combustion? Do you think the best is always recommended?

I've only used the 4 inch ss and copper barrels. Do any of you make your own? We make our own copper ones. We use the same CC 135mm for all powders. We use copper barrels for metals and ss for carbides. Deposit efficiency and microstructure are very nice.

12mm,19mm and 22mm relate to the GTV Top Gun not the JP5000.

The geometry of the chamber giving / adjusting the pressure. The pressure has very strong effect for the coating. Specially for the velocity. It means in case of special requirement one of the solution can be the different geometry of the chamber or the nozzle.
