LG Electronics will work with GS Caltex to develop a new generation of charging stations for electric vehicles.
Korea's LG Electronics Company is an electronics giant, while Jiashi Texas is an oil company. The two companies said they would transform existing gas stations into "Energy-Mobility Fusion Stations".
Firstly, the two companies will install more than 350 kW charging piles at Jiashi Texas gas station, and will consider whether to install robots and wireless chargers in the future. In addition, the two companies plan to add digital matching, which can use data acquired during car charging process to check vehicle defects and provide maintenance advice to people when necessary. Such facilities will be installed in the second half of 2019, first in Seoul and other metropolitan areas, and then extended to the whole country.
In November 2018, LG established a new Robot and Auto-Driving Vehicle Department, both of which are directly managed by the CEO of the company. In addition, LG has launched cleaning and guided robots at Incheon International Airport, South Korea, and is working with local supermarket chain E-Mart to develop smart shopping carts. In addition, LG, together with its subsidiaries LG Display and LG Chemicals, is expanding its automotive parts business. LG Chemicals and LG Display provide panels and batteries for electric vehicles, respectively. In addition, LG Chemicals has invested 1.2 trillion won ($1.07 billion, 7.2 billion yuan) in its battery factory in China to meet the high demand for its batteries in the market.
