I hear a lot of speech about fusing process. We do it also in our company. But it is very intresting for my to know : what is difference if I perform fusing with acetylene and if I perform fusing with propane??? I understand that fusing with propane oxidize coating, but is it really make so big influence to wear resistance of the coating???

RE: Fusing process
Hi candierosa,
The point is not that the acetylene-oxygen flame is more reducing than the propane-oxygen one; for the melting of self-fluxing NiCrBSi alloys, this does not matter. Much more important is the difference in the temperature of the acetylene-oxygen flame (3150°C) and propane-oxygen (2400°C). Due to the higher temperature of the acetylene-oxygen flame, with equal power, it heats up the part much faster than propane-oxygen. It is the heating rate that is the main advantage of the acetylene-oxygen flame, since at a slow heating rate, the coating is oxidized, or rather the steel under it. You can also achieve a high heating rate when heating with an inductor, but when heating in air, it is impossible to heat slowly.
A higher quality coating is obtained by fusing in a protective atmosphere (with slow heating in a furnace with a protective atmosphere), but that's another story.
