I would assume you need to select the thickness of film that will more than fill the gap, after consideration of coating flatness and surface roughness. Sorry it took me so long to get back to this post. I got in touch with Rob @ Couch Sales and he got me what we needed. We built a fixture and sent some samples to the lab, just waiting to hear back. Thanks for all the info.
