Effective Way of Testing hardness of Tungsten Carbide
Hi everyone,
how can I test hardness of Tungsten Carbide end mill... ??
I figure out some figures HV=1800-2400
HRA=92-95
HRC=60-69
Are this figures are correct to cross check

RE: Effective Way of Testing hardness of Tungsten Carbide
To test the hardness of an end mill, you will need a Vickers test rig and a fixture to hold the mill. The test rig consists of a diamond indenter which applies a fixed load and a microscope to measure the length of the indentation. This length is then correlated to a hardness. The Rockwell scales are insufficient to test tungsten carbide hardness as the ball on the indenter is softer than the tungsten carbide.

Rockwell, using the N scale, with an N brale indenter can measure the hardness of carbide.
