Copyright Protection?
Hello Friends,

If a specific website says Copyright: 1997-2008 does that mean you can use stuff from the website because its copyright is not for 2009 I am just confused cause games on xbox are like that. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks and Regards

No, the date just means the year of first publication of the copyrighted work not a termination of rights.

Also, a copyright notice is not required to be displayed in order for copyright to be established. The creation of the work automatically establishes copyright.

If you want to use other peoples work you should gain the owners permission first, simple as that.

RE: Copyright Protection?
Hello Members,

The rule of thumb for all copy righted material is the following: For works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. For an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, the copyright endures for a term of 95 years from the year of its first publication or a term of 120 years from the year of its creation, whichever expires first. You see a date and the intellectual property of that date 1977 - 2008 means the company that owns the property has protection starting from 1977 - running through 2008. Just because its 2009 does not mean that it isn't protected material. I could be that the web master failed to update the site to reflect the New Year.

Thanks and Regards
