Cold Spraying & Cold spray combustion
I was just talking to a Metco rep and I left the conversion extremely confused. He was talking about the difference in hot spray and cold spray combustion powders. In my mind cold spraying is when you use a soft material with high pressures with no heat. He was talking about a 5PII torch with cold spray combustion powders. Can anyone clear this up as to what the difference between cold spray, cold spray combustion powders, and hot spray combustion powders is?

Aaron

RE: Cold Spraying & Cold spray combustion
HI Aaron

I think Rolleyes what he should be saying:

* Most of thermal spray coating is a cold process with respect to the substrate.

"Hot spray and cold spray combustion powders" I can only think he is referring to normal powders (for cold process relative to substrate) and self-fluxing powders designed for fusing (hot process relative to substrate).

I don't think he is talking about the "cold spray" process (cold gas-dynamic spraying process).

Yes, except the gas is in fact heated. I think good definition would be cold process with respect to powder (non-melting) and substrate. HVOF and HVAF being somewhere in between a cold process relative to the powder and a hot process relative to the powder Happy0193

Words can be very confusing

RE: Cold Spraying & Cold spray combustion
If a Metco "rep ???" said to you that concept really, it seems that there is not more expertize.
There is a continuosly discussion about this argument.....
Best regards
