Coating on Boiler tube in Coal Fired Power Plan by using Tafa wire 97MXC
Dear all,
we need any references in application of Coating on Boiler tube in Coal Fired Power Plan by using Tafa wire 97MXC, especially for resistance against crack while the temperature from 1400 dec C down to room temperature, just for 500 micron of thickness , any experiences of this wires has been used in that condition without any cracks ?
Your any share information were much appreciated..
Thanks and regards,

RE: Coating on Boiler tube in Coal Fired Power Plan by using Tafa wire 97MXC
Hello All:

I would like to broaden the discussion to cover the selection of alloys and processes for the protection of coal fired boilers:

Since this has been done for many years in USA, Europe and China, it seems like this should not be Intellectual property, but rather open source information. Can any one openly provide information on the selection of coating material, process and technique for coal fired boilers.

I have seen the following offered:

Ceramic Compound
Self Fluxing Alloys
45CT
TAFA 95 MXC, Tafa 97 MXC and equivalents
CrC NiCr
WC
Ceramics

I understand HVOF, HVAF, Arc, Sprayfuse, Laser, GTAW are among the processes, as well as PTA, and GMAW

Also under considerati0on is the environmental aspects, economic aspects:

a) operating temperature, pressure
b) Boiler type, materials, country of origin, design, age
c) Coal Composition
d) Operating cycle

etc. Is there an open source of information on the path to solutions?

Of course after this incenderators, MFB .....

Hi Iwan
just following up on an old post about boiler tube coatings. ARe you still doing boiler coatings

Some great developments; The Hand-Held AK-HH Gun and Portable Thermal Spray System for Manual Deposition of Metal and Carbide Coatings: http://kermetico.com/ak/hand

and Spray on Ceramic Coatings from Fireside Coatings. https://www.firesidecoatings.com/

used in combination an applicator can get some great results.

Metco was supplying a 50-50 Ni-Cr wire for paper boilers and digesters that works well in that rather harsh environment.

I don't know how the crack resistance would be going from 1400 to 70- and regardless of what I might know, I think the time from max to min temp is a critical factor... If the temp crashes fast (i.e. cold water wash-down) there is not a whole lot of coatings that would not crack and /or spall. Molybdenum comes to mind (at least it would stay on) but I think even that would crack. Never mind the cost of enough wire to coat a boiler...
Spraying since '87. University of Metco alum (99-16)
