Best Fixture Material To Avoid Bridging
Hi,

Can anyone recommend a suitable material that would stand up to HVOF process while also not allow bridging between the fixture and component?

Hi David

1) if you are looking to making a fixture any ordinary steel like Mild Steel (or) En material also sufficient for all thermal spray processes like HVOF, Plasma etc.

2) To avoid bridging between the fixture and component, you have to design fixture such that there should be small gap between component and fixture by providing chamfer or small step in fixture.

3) Better to use fixture after shot blasting operation.

Finally i want to say that you have to use all your brain in making fixture rather than selecting the raw material for fixture.

Fixture design is far more important than material. Supposing the HVOF can't stick to the fixture at all (perfect material) bridging will still cause a problem if the fixture geometry is prone to it, because when you remove the work piece from the fixture any bridged material will still have to be removed. There are a number of high temp silicone rubbers that can be used to prevent "locking" your workpiece onto the fixture if this is the problem that you are fighting, but design>material.
