Amdry 9954 for titanium based alloy
I need to coat TBC on Titanium based substrate. The powder available is Amperit 827.1 (7YSZ) as a top coat and Amdry 9954 (CoNiCrAlY) as bond coat.
Is this combination feasible on titanium based substrate?

Definitely not. The bond coats made of MCrAlY alloys will not hold on Ti alloys at high temperatures.

RE: Amdry 9954 for titanium based alloy
Thank you Vadim

I dropped the idea of coating TBC. Now I want to coat abradable on Ti based alloy. The available powders are
1. Metco 2043 (Co 25Ni 16Cr 6Al 0.3Y 4BN 15Polyester)
2. Metco 312 NS (Ni 4Cr 4Al 21Bentonite)

Which powder should I use and what should be the bond coat?

Thanks and Regards

Bharti

Hi Bharti,
Nickel-aluminum is suitable as a bond coat for such layers on a Ti substrate. The top coat is usually nickel-graphite or metal-polyester.

Vadim

RE: Amdry 9954 for titanium based alloy
Hello Vadim,

I'm going to coat Metco 301NS (Ni13Cr 8Fe 6.5BN 3.5Al 2Organic binder) abradable powder with Amperit 283.2 (Ni-5Al) Bond coat on titanium based substrate.

Will This work?

Can the above combination is feasible on Ni based substrate? If Not, Which bond coat is to be used?

Please help...

Thank you

Bharti

Hi Bharti,
With the powder 301NS I have no experience, but why not? Bondcoat from Amperit 281 (283 does not exist) is in any case a good choice for titanium base, as well as for nickel-based substrates. You have to use plasma spraying (APS) for the coating of both powder (not HVOF!).

Bondcoat must be very rough, so use the coarse Ni-Al powder (approx.100 μm).

Regards
Vadim

Hi Vadim,

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll be using APS for sure. Do you have any spray parameters for abradable coatings?

Thank You Smile
