95/5 Bond Strength
Hello to Group. Does anyone know the bond strength of Plasma 95/5 Nickel Aluminide over a machined surface of the same material? We are building up thrust faces on bearing holders and remachining before installing alumina ceramic for electrical insulation. Thank You.

RE: 95/5 Bond Strength
Hi George

Sign0016 to the Surface Engineering Forum.

I have not seen any bond strength values for this scenario. But, I think it would probably be more than adequate for your purpose if done with care. Just make sure that the machined restorative coating is not contaminated with any cutting fluids and carefully grit blasted prior to coating. Though, I doubt the bond between NiAl/NiAl will be as good as with a normal substrate, chances are it will still be above that of the NiAl/ceramic interface bond strength. I think to be sure, do your own tests on complete coating system and if failure occurs at NiAl/ceramic interface or in ceramic, there should not be a problem.
