45VFNS Delamination

Hello Gordon,

I am having one hell of a time with 45VFNS. I have had 4 delaminations in a row now.

I have read the metco spec sheet, and it recommends it be sprayed with the 3M or F4. I am using the equipment that I have been provided, which is a 9M. However, I saw in a previous thread where you stated that it shouldn't be sprayed to a thickness of more than .015" or .4mm. Can you explain why? I have to achieve a dimension that requires .025" of buildup.

Plasma sprayed Metco 45VF develops high levels of residual stress and at thicknesses greater than about 0,015" these can be approaching the strength of the coating/bond.

Use Metco 45C-NS instead. If the specific properties of 45VF are specifically required then use 45C-NS as a base coat making up the majority of thickness and top off with 45VF-NS.

I will have to see if the customer will allow that. In the customer SPM it says that we can use 45VFNS and stellite 31 F. However, on the Metco product sheet where it lists the equivalents, it's mentions stellite 31 for both 45C-NS, and 45VFNS, but nowhere does it list Stellite 31 F.
