To estimate these you need information, look for powder deposit
efficiency, powder spray rate,
coating density, coating deposition rate, coverage, powder weight from your equipment/powder supplier or run your own tests.
Assume you can find deposit efficiency, coating density information for your powder and equipment.
- Volume of coating = desired thickness x surface area
- coating weight = coating density x coating volume
- POWDER REQUIRED = coating weight x 100 divided by deposit efficiency %
- TIME = powder required divided by powder spray rate
Alternative information may be available such as: - Coverage = volume of coating per unit of time or express as sq ft/hr/0.001" thickness or sq m/hr/0.1mm thickness.
- Powder weight required usually expressed as lb/sq ft/0.001" or kg/sq m/0.1mm
- Deposition rate = coating weight per hour (spray rate x 100 divided by deposit efficiency per hour).
Remember the above is based on specific operation parameters and does not include the effects of target efficiency (spraying off job). You will need to estimate a correction factor to take account of this and probably a contingency factor.
Sorry if the above does not answer your question and you are familiar with the calculations. It is unfortunate that sometimes using quoted data seems not to work well in practice (many reasons that I will not go into here). The only reliable way would be to do spray tests or use past experience.
