: : Need we a bond coat before WC/Co 12 coating on Cast Iron Substrate /lamellar graphite/?
:

Normally no bond coat required. My ex-colleagues (B.Kushner & A.Rotolico) have done investigations on microstructures and properties ofWC-Co coatings by both plasma (80KW) and HVOF processes. In my book on "Advanced Thermally Assisted Surface Engineering Processes", Kluwer Academic Publishers,2004,I have included their work in p210-212.Both the spray processes can result in glassy deposit which may require subsequent heat treatment to form crystalline structures.Comarotively high temp. heat treatment process may cause reaction of graphite with coating /and or base CI.
