We do apply arc wire thermal spray coatings to restore dimensionally worn out crankshaft journals, and we do get good hardness and micro finish results.
However, some porosity inherent to the arc wire spray process is always found on the applied coating.
Does anybody know if this porosity helps/prevents proper lubrication and crankshaft function, or maybe there is no influence?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
