: Is there a powder capable of providing abradable thermal sprayed coating for turbine applications, for gas temperatures up to 1050 deg C?
: Thanks.
For temperatures above 900 deg C and up to 1200 deg C ceramic abradable coatings are required and are usually based on plasma sprayed YSZ (yttria stabilised zirconia)with a MCrAlY coating base. Polymer additions to the YSZ powder are used to control porosity levels which is normally burnt out by heat treatment after coating. Because of the abrasive nature of this coating, the blade tip or counter face material will also need coating with a wear resistant abrasive material that will effectively abrade the YSZ coating without wear to itself.
