I'm planning to start my masters degree in materials science. I like to study corrosion of metals. I have found a good university (Columbia) faculty interested in electrochemistry.

I know that corrosion is an electrochemical reaction but will it mean if I take my degree in electrochemistry that I will have to focus on other aspect of science (surly related to electrochemistry but not related to corrosion, like batteries for example?) or is it true that studying electrochemistry makes you knowledgeable in corrosion right away.
