: hi,
: just wanna know what is the best thermal spray process used for fixing worn-out journal of a crankshaft? and the most economical process applicable that will do the job?
: Thanks
In general agreement with John's comments. Arc spray "Met2" (Metcoloy #2 or good 13%Cr steel).
Caution, some crankshaft journals and pins are surface treated by induction hardening or nitriding. These treatments are not always just to improve wear resistance but also to improve fatigue resistance. So take care to fully evaluate the crankshaft and repair procedure. HVOF would provide the best quality coatings at a higher cost and may be a minimum requirement on some crankshafts.
