It is a pure TiCl4 gas. The purpose of the coating is to reduce wear on Inconol components. There appears to be what looks like cavitational wear, as really there are no abrasive elements going through. I have extended the life of the component but what is strange is that you would expect to see coating in less aggressive areas. On a whole the coating has disappeared. This to me indicates a possible corrosive element to the problem.
You mention that TiCl4 is corrosive in gas form, corrosive to what? If its nickel then I agree that Wc/Ni would be no better. Uhmmm!!!! Perhaps Aly oxide might be the way to go.
