: Hi Gordon/all,

: How good do you think HVOF nickel chrome carbide would be against 400 C TiCl4 gas (Ticle). The reason I ask is that a recent trial appears to have washed away the coating. I'm now thinking of the Hvof tungsten bonded in nickel

: Many thanks for your help

Hi John

Not too sure on this one. Titanium tetrachloride is a liquid at room temperature. In itself not too corrosive. In presence of moisture HCl is formed which is very corrosive. At elevated temperatures I think it becomes far more corrosive.

What is the function of the coating?
Are we talking about pure TiCL4 gas or are there other chemicals involved?

If the chromium carbide/nickel chromium was corroded away, I doubt whether WC/Ni would be any better. If it is purely a wear problem, then it may be worth trying.

Regards Gordon
