: Hi Gordan

: is there any problems arc spraying laser hardend components. We remove 1mm of the hardened surface grit blasted, preheat, and sprayed with alpha 1800. Also what is your opinion regarding chrome replacment using arc spray wires eg 95mxc or alpha 1800. comments appretiated

Bill

There should be no problem as long as the substrate is sound and the grit blast etch is good.

In many applications thermal spray coatings can be used to replace hard chromium electroplate including arc spray coatings. But, I don't think any thermal spray coating will exactly duplicate the specific properties of hard chromium plate, so each application needs to be assessed and the best coating system chosen to operate in that particular environment. In some cases hard chrome is hard to beat, in others thermal spray coatings can be much superior.
