All the thermal spray processes (flame, plasma, arc and HVOF) with a large selection of coating materials are successfully used on bearing journals. The choice depends on the bearing type, operating conditions and economics. Plasma sprayed chromium oxide is good for use on surfaces running against mechanical seals.
